City Manager Update Report

April 2008

 

City Hall:

1.  City website: Construction Watch icon tells citizens the location and status of City construction sites.
2.  Demolition of NuAir facility is complete and site is stabilized. 
3.  The City has changed its Newsletter format.  Please let us know your opinion, 770-945-6716.
4.  Receive your Newsletter and Construction Watch updates via email.  Click on the “Email List” link on the City website.
5.  A new E-Packet will be placed on the City website for the May Work Session.  This packet will include the agenda with links to backup data and documents.
6.  Sugar Hill Annual Spring Clean Up days are scheduled for May 14th north of Hwy 20 and May 21st south of Hwy 20.  Flyers are going out in the April Gas bills, emails being sent to HOA contacts and posted on the website.

Streets:

1.  RR Ave and Hillcrest Ave will be under construction for approximately one year for natural gas, water and reuse line installation.
2.  The water lines in Hickory Hills Trailer Park have been replaced.  Bids for the sidewalk installation on Creek Lane and Craig Drive are due on April 18th.  Construction will begin the end of May.
3.  Construction of new curb/gutter and sidewalk on Appling Road is complete.
4.  The City continues to work with GDOT to keep the Hwy 20 expansion on schedule. A list of government contacts will be on the website for the public to contact their State and Federal elected officials.
5.  Congratulations and thank you for a job well done to Chris Jackson and Bob Hinkelman for their fast thinking and quick action to put out a home fire in the Wild Timber subdivision last week!
6.  Demolition of houses on Level Creek and W Broad St. will begin the week of April 21st.

Planning and Zoning: March

1.  65 construction permits.
2.  169 building inspections.
3.  29 Erosion Control Inspections.
4.  Report possible City Code Violations: www.cityofsugarhill.com using the CARES reporting form on the Home Page. 

Recreation:

1.  Sign-up for spring classes; call the Community Center at 770-831-7413 or visit them at 1166 Church St.
2.  Sugar Hill is becoming the “RECREATION CITY”.  Sugar Hill now has over 110 acres in park land and 30 acres in protected Greenspace designated land.
           Gary Pirkle Park; constructing a 55 acre complex of soccer fields, 2 miles of walking paths, playgrounds, combination concession / restroom facilities, tennis, parking and a putt-putt course.
•    Meetings with contractors for sports lighting, final field construction and restroom/concession building are under way and RFPS are planned to be advertised within the next 30-45 days.
           EE Robinson Park; expanded the park by 20 acres to a total of 55 acres.  New land will have another ball field, expanded parking, trails, concession, scoring, restroom facility and new parking adjacent to Level Creek.
•    Meetings with contractors for grading design for the parking lot and 18 acres are under way and RFPS are planned to be advertised within the next 30-45 days.
           Greenspace: 17 acres on Appling Road, 11 acres on Riverside Road and 4 acres on Hillcrest Dr.  This land will be kept in or returned to a natural undeveloped condition.
3.  On March 28th, the Ground Breaking for Gary Pirkle Park Phase I was held.   Construction was awarded to Charles Pruitt Enterprises, a Sugar Hill business. The Phase I grading and infrastructure construction should be completed by October.  This is a two phase project.  Design of the remainder of the park is underway.
4.  The first Owner/Dog Obedience class is a success, class is full.  Additional classes are in the planning phase.
5.  Renovation of the old restroom facility in EER will begin this week.  This building will contain the electrical controls for park lighting and storage space for park equipment and materials.  We have two new restroom facilities in EER and the old building was substandard for our citizens.
6.  Friday night, April 18th free movie in EE Robinson Park begins at dusk and showing “Open Season”.

Golf:

1.  The Golf Course is in the best condition ever.  Call the Pro Shop, 770-271-0519, to reserve tee times and lessons.

Gas: 

1.  Pay your natural gas bill ONLINE:  www.cityofsugarhill.com and click the “online payments” icon.
2.  Automatic Payment Service for gas bill.  Call City Hall, 770-945-6716, or go to the City website to sign up.
3.  12 new services in March.
4.  Sugar Hill’s price per therm for the 20 March - 5 April invoices was $1.09
5.  Total Price comparison for 42 therms:  Sugar Hill $58.97; Georgia Natural $84.03; Gas South $84.35; SCANA $84.73.
